Public Works to Move By End of Year

Lilburn City Council approved the move to a two-acre location on Lilburn Industrial Way.

Lilburn's Public Works Department will make a move before the new year.

At their monthly meeting, City Council approved the purchase of a two-acre property at 4428 Lilburn Industrial Way by a vote of 3-0. Councilman Thomas Wight did not attend the meeting.

The location is under contract for $715,000. All the funds come from the 2009 SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax). The new location will allow access to the greenway, which is maintained by Public Works, and more secure storage for vehicles impounded by police.

The move will also allow the city more room to grow.

"In the bigger picture it allows us to further develop our downtown," said City Manager Bill Johnsa in a release.

The current Public Works facility on Railroad Avenue will be torn down. The land will then be used for parking in Old Town Lilburn until the City decides on another use.
