Rabies Alert in Gwinnett County

After several incidents late last year Gwinnett County officials issued a Rabies Alert for the county.

A rabies alert was issued by Gwinnett County last week after a bat bit a Norcross resident at 1173 Forest Vale Circle on Dec. 27.

According to the county website, the bat was not captured. This comes on the heels of a Lilburn resident being bitten by a gray fox in Lilburn on Dec. 17. That animal too was not located, but officials report that a raccoon found at Saint Aurics Drive in Suwanee on Dec. 4 and a fox found at 450 Hoke O'Kelly Mill Road in Loganville on Nov. 11 both tested positive for rabies at the state lab.

Officials ask that if anyone has been bitten by any stray animal, or knows of anyone handling that stray animal, to contact the Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Office at 770.339.3200 ext. 5576.
