Road-Construction Woes in Lilburn May Lessen by Summer

Three of the four major projects in the city could be finished in June.

Doug Stacks, the city’s director of , was being sarcastic when he told the this week, “Everybody loves driving through Lilburn these days.”

He added, however, that the traffic pains from months of road construction in the area are about to lessen, if work crews stay on schedule.

Stacks told the council Monday night that the four major construction projects in the city limits should be completed this year, three of them as soon as June.

Two of the projects are SPLOST-funded and both involve bridge replacements.

Construction through the intersection of Lawrenceville Highway and Indian Trail/Killian Hill roads, which includes the replacement of the bridge over Jackson Creek, has a July target, but Stacks said “every effort is being made to complete it by June.”

The other SPLOST project—Arcado Road from Luxomni Road to Lilburn Industrial Way—is scheduled for November completion. That project includes a new bridge, also over Jackson Creek, which was closed for an extended time after the September 2009 flood. The new bridge, some five feet higher than the old one, is already open to traffic.

Two federally funded projects—Lawrenceville Highway intersections at Beaver Ruin/Arcado and Pleasant Hill/Lester—are both expected to be completed in June, Stacks said.
