Sidewalk To Aquatics Center Approved

Sidewalk on Rockbridge Road, two other road improvements, will be paid for with 2009 SPLOST funds.

A new sidewalk leading to the on Rockbridge Road and two other road improvements in the area were approved by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners this week.

The work, at a cost of $960,000, will be funded from the 2009 SPLOST sales tax program, according to a release from the county. E.R. Snell Contractors, Inc., was the lowest of six bidders.

The sidewalk, to be located on the west side of Rockbridge Road, will run from Lilburn-Stone Mountain Road to Five Forks-Trickum Road, connecting area neighborhoods to the aquatics center.

Snell also will add left- and right-turn lanes at the intersection of Rockbridge and Summer Cover Drive, and replace a drainage culvert at Garner Creek.

Work is expected to begin this summer.

The commissioners also approved a $203,328 project to install a sidewalk on Old Suwanee Road to provide additional pedestrian access to Lanier High School in northern Gwinnett County. 

“These projects are typical of the school safety and sidewalk improvements that are included in the SPLOST program’s transportation funding,” Gwinnett DOT Director Brian Allen said in a released statement. “We continue to construct projects as quickly as possible to improve safety and quality of life in our community.”
