Woman Scammed In Buying MacBook

Inside the Police Reports: A woman paid $400 for an Apple MacBook Pro but she only received a binder.

A woman paid $400 for what she believed to be an Apple MacBook Pro when it actually turned out to be a simple notebook binder.

The woman, 36 of Lawrenceville, met with Lilburn Police in the Walmart parking lot at 4004 Lawrenceville Highway on Nov. 25. Her English was very limited, so the officer spoke with her young child for information on what happened.

According to the police report, the woman was stopped by a gray Chevy, driven by an unknown male, at the Bank of America in the same shopping center. Another unknown male who in the passenger seat exited the vehicle and spoke to the woman in Spanish.

He told her he was selling a new Apple MacBook Pro, still in the box and with a price tag of $2,299. The Hispanic man offered it to her for $400, and she agreed to the payment. After paying him, he placed the computer box inside a FedEx box and handed it to her.

She opened the computer box soon after and found out that the only thing inside was a notebook binder. There was no computer.
