2013 Berkmar Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Gwinnett County Public Schools announces the names of Berkmar High School's 2012-2013 valedictorian and salutatorian in Lilburn.

Gwinnett County Public Schools has released the names of the 2012-2013 valedictorian and salutatorian from Berkmar High School.

The title of valedictorian is normally given to the student with the highest GPA, and salutatorian is given to the student with the second-highest GPA. Photos of the honorees are attached to the story.

  • Valedictorian: Lizbeth Peña, daughter of Jesus Peña and Maria Peña, will attend Columbia University. Her intended major is earth and environmental engineering. Her career goal is to help society become more enivronmentally friendly and sustainable so that future generations also can thrive with its resources. She has received or been offered the Questbridge scholarship, which covers tuition, room and board for $60,000 a year. She became an AP scholar her freshman year, became a HOBY alumnus the following summer and later placed first in Emory's Junior Achievement Camp. She's also the Lead Junior Marshall, a College Prep Scholar, a National AP Scholar, and most recently a Georgia Scholar. He has served on or participated in the Math Club, Beta Club, National Honor Society and AP Inspiration Club, which she also created. 
  • Salutatorian: Eden Hailemichael, daughter of Hailemichael Weldeghiorghis and Letehaimanot Petros, will attend Stanford University. She plans to study human biology or chemistry. Her career goals consist of going into ophthalmology, pediatric oncology or any surgical field. She has received or been offered an academic scholarship for $59,774, the Maxxis International Scholarship for $500 and National Achievement Scholarship for $2,500. She has participated in Berkmar's Student Council, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Relay for Life and more.
