Alfred Taylor Named New Principal of Berkmar High School

The new principal was named after Dr. Gene Taylor rescinded the position in September.

After a month of ups and downs, the Gwinnett County Board of Education has named a new principal for Berkmar High School.

During their monthly meeting on Thursday evening, they announced Alfred "Al" Taylor will take over as principal of the Lilburn high school.

Taylor is currently the principal of Radloff Middle School in Duluth. He has worked in the Gwinnett County Public Schools system since 2002 when he taught sixth grade math at Sweetwater Middle School. 

The new principal is currently working on his Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at Georgia State University. He is a 2010 graduate of the Quality-Plus Leader Academy, Aspiring Principal Program.

The announcement of Al Taylor being named principal comes one month after Dr. Gene Taylor was offered the position and then turned it down three days laterDr. Taylor was to leave his position as principal at North Atlanta High School to come to Berkmar, then was offered a promotion with Atlanta Public Schools, finally it was announced he would stay as principal of the Buckhead school.

Al Taylor will take over for Interim Principal Jane Stegall in the next few weeks.
