With Parkview, Berkmar and Providence Christian holding their graduations this weekend, here’s a look at each school’s valedictorians:

BERKMAR

Name: Destiny Cobb

College Attending: Georgia Tech

Major: Biomolecular Engineering

Scholarships: Hope Scholarship ($7,600 per year); GT Scholarships ($1,000 per year); GT Alumni ($1,000); Maxxis Scholarship ($500).

Career Goals: “Work for NASA or private research institutions to develop technology to aid in the pursuit of human space colonization.”

Honors and Awards: First place in Science, State BETA convention (2011); First place, Region and State in essay in the Georgia High School Association Literary Meet; Second place (team), State Academic Decathlon; Certificate of Merit from UGA.

School Activities: Academic Decathlon, Academic Quiz Bowl captain, BETA Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, Latin Club.

Community Activities: Tutoring high school at Berkmar and elementary at Apartment Homes; Setting up Lawrenceville Christmas Parade.

PARKVIEW

Name: Tianqi Wu

Parents: Xin Gao, Zhengyi Qu

College Attending: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Major: Mathematics
Scholarships: Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology ($14,000).
Career Goals: “I envision a future career as a mathematics professor, exploring the fascinating secrets of numbers and sharing my knowledge and passion in this beautiful subject with others. Through my career, I hope to both contribute to the understanding of mathematics and bring more people into this pursuit of truth.”

Honors and Awards: Siemens Competition National Finalist; Math Olympiad Summer Program Qualifier; USA Math talent Search Gold Prize; Science Olympiad Medals; Governor’s Honors Program Qualifier; State German Convention medals; National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.

School Activities: Math Team, Science Olympiad Team, Science Honors Society, National Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, BETA Club.

Community Activities: Choi Kwang Do Martial Arts, Emory Junior Volunteer Program.

 

PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN

Name: Alison Mikle

Parents: Marie and John Mikle

College Attending: University of Alabama

Major: Mathematics

Scholarships: Presidential Scholarship

Career Goals: “I’m going to be a Math major, so whatever jobs I can get out of that I guess would be my career goals. … I definitely know that my gifts are from God and I would love to use them to glorify Him.”

Honors and Awards: National Honor Society, BETA Club, Honors Algebra I, Honors Algebra II, Math Modeling, Statistics, Honors Geometry Award, Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry.

School Activities: Varsity Soccer, JV Basketball, Math Team, Dolphin Club.

Community Activities: MERGE hours, U5 soccer coach at Gwinnett Soccer Association, Mountain First Baptist Basketball.
