Brookwood High Organizing 'Pink Out' for Friday's Game Against Parkview

Organizers are hoping the "Pink Out" event is a success. Special T-shirts are available at the school.

With the big game just days away, staff and students are hoping to bring awareness to the battle of those affected by breast cancer with a special "Pink Out."

This Friday's game against Parkview Panthers, dubbed the "The Battle of Five Forks," is bringing the neighborhood rivals together for a much-anticipated game. And, with all the excitement, David Lockwood thought it was the perfect chance to highlight an important cause.

"We all have been affected by cancer at some point in our lives it felt like the cancer awareness movement was a great chance to hop on board and not only raise awareness but raise money to help the American Cancer Society help those directly involved in the fight against it," said Lockwood, who has worked at Brookwood High since 2008.

His wife, Susan Lockwood, is a teacher and cheerleading coach at the school. Her spirited girls are very involved, having created a promotional video aired in the school's morning announcements for the "Pink Out the Panthers" event.

"Susan's cheerleaders were particularly excited to get on board and have done a great job promoting and working to pull this off," David Lockwood said.

The T-shirts -- soft pink with maroon lettering (maroon is one of Brookwood's colors) -- are $10 for short sleeve and $15 for long sleeved. There is an additional $2 charge for double extra large. The proceeds from the T-shirts sales will go directly to the American Cancer Society.

This is the first year of the "Pink Out" event, Lockwood said, and judging by pre-sales of more than 200 T-shirts, "it should be an awesome event."

Although the pre-sales period has ended, the school is taking orders to reserve your special T-shirt at their Spirit Wear shop Friday night.
