Celebrating Homecoming in Style

Parkview takes the American tradition of the Homecoming weekend to a whole new level as the students participated in a week-long celebration of the event.

The celebrations started on Monday with Sports Day, followed by a holiday theme on Tuesday. School girl outfits and vampire impersonators filled the halls for Wednesday’s Twilight vs. Harry Potter theme. On Thursday, you could find your favorite famous person -- well ok, maybe just an impersonator -- for Celebrity Day.

Spirit day is the culmination of the school week and the start to a full weekend with Parkview taking on Berkmar in the homecoming game Friday night and the homecoming dance on Saturday night.

Getting ready for the week, a group of seniors rocked out to Party Rock Anthem while they spray painted shirts, cut zebra tights, and tried on wigs to create one-of-a-kind costumes for Celebrity Day. Diego Casillas, Jesse Foster, Austin Fisher, Erik Kavis, Jeff Ronprin and Jarrad Trotter went as the very eccentric electro-hop duo LMFAO as well as characters from the group’s music videos.

Sierra Beher, a sophomore, and Schafer Sirmer, were happy to give me a sneak peak at their homecoming dance outfits and talked to me a little about their plans.

Sirmer will be wearing a very chic black and white mid-length tube top dress with a cute cover over the shoulders. What about accessories and shoes? Well, that is top secret information. You’ll have to wait and see. Instead of dinner out, Sirmer got creative and made plans for a more personal evening; a steak dinner at her house with her boyfriend before the dance.

Beher chose a black knee-length dress. The high-waisted, spaghetti-top dress has a silvery bow at the waist and flows freely towards the bottom. She still has some shopping to do to complete the outfit, so unfortunately, no sneak peak of the shoes. What about plans for the evening? Beher has decided to be spontaneous and doesn’t have dinner plans, yet.
