Five Things To Know July 29

We have updates on Friday night happenings, school-bus news and local soccer players in the MLS.

1. Can’t-Miss Friday: By now, there should be no surprise for local residents that the series runs every Friday night in downtown Lilburn. If you haven’t visited, you’re running out of time to pick up items from and chat with local farmers, crafters and other entrepreneurs. The market runs 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Friday through Aug 26. Add in a visit to tonight to the performance at 7 p.m in . Cheer on your favorite local singers this week, and then again next Friday for the Lilburn Idol Finale.

2. Traffic Heads-Up: School is still 10 days of away from opening, but be prepared to encounter some bus traffic next week in the area. Gwinnett County drivers will be running their assigned routes — at the assigned times — beginning Tuesday to get acquainted with what they’ll face when taking your kids to school. At the same time, it’ll give parents a chance to know which bus headed to which school at which time will drive by the house. Drivers will run the routes through next Friday.

3. Giddy Up: Lilburn Patch has a new weekly feature that reviews new movies done exclusively for us by Brett Martin, the former Fox 5 Good Day Atlanta reporter. This week, Martin reviews the unusual sci-fi movie “Cowboys and Aliens.” .

4. Update on MLS Panthers: Former soccer stars Blake Brettschneider and Josh Wolff are among the scoring leaders for D.C. United of the MLS. Wolff, who has played in 18 of 19 games, leads the team with five assists and was third in goals scored with four. Brettschneider, who has recently returned from injury (concussion), has one goal and two assists in nine game appearances.

5. On This Date: It was July 29, 1958 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, essentially creating the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
