Four Students at Lilburn Schools Named National Achievement Scholars

Berkmar High School leads the Lilburn area with number of students awarded scholarships.

Gwinnett County school officials announced Monday that four Lilburn students are National Achievement Scholars.

The National Achievement Scholarship, a program of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, provides scholarships to outstanding African-American high school students.

These named seniors, each receiving a $2,500 scholarship, are considered as having the strongest record of accomplishments and greatest potential for academic success in college.

Also worth noting, Berkmar High's Eden Hailemichael received a corporate-sponsored award. She is one of approximately 100 students to receive such an honor.

Corporate organizations generally provide awards for finalists who are children of their employees, residents of communities the company serves, or have plans to pursue majors or careers the grantor wishes to encourage.

All total 17 students in Gwinnett County, and about 800 nationwide were named National Achievement Scholars.

The Lilburn-area winners are:

Berkmar High School:

  • Adila Abdulwahid, who plans to study surgical medicine
  • Eden Hailemichael, who plans to study medicine (Scholarship sponsored by the Xerox Foundation.)
  • Michelle Ramos, who plans to study writing

Parkview High School:

  • Laura Marie Anderson, who plans to study veterinary medicine
