GCPS Wins EMMY for Reading Program

GCPS TV received the award for its "Love That Book!" series. It is the district's fourth EMMY overall.

The Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recently presented Gwinnett County Public Schools with an EMMY Award for "Love That Book!," a GCPS TV production.

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) was honored with an EMMY the category of outstanding achievement (in news/program specialty for children 12 years old and younger). The district received the award during the 2013 Southeast Regional EMMY Awards Gala on June 8 in Atlanta.

Specifically, the award went to the episode entitled: "Love That Book! – Duck, Duck, President." Participates included: Kolinda Scialabba, writer/producer; Glenn Ballard, director; Randall Tolliver, editor; and Carmen Deedy, host.

The awarded episode teaches children that every vote counts in elections.

"We are pleased that the academy continues to recognize GCPS for our children’s programming," said Greg LaHatte, the school district’s director of broadcast and distance learning, in a press release. "It is wonderful to see our team’s commitment to creating and providing the highest quality of educational programming recognized."

The 2013 EMMY is the district's third for "Love That Book!" It is the district fourth EMMY overall.
