Georgia Gwinnett College Collaborates with Lilburn's Kosovo Efforts

Georgia Gwinnett College hopes to keep the international relationship going strong.

Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) is collaborating with a new Sister Cities effort between Lilburn and City of Suhareka in Kosovo.

Recently, GGC hosted a meeting between representatives from Lilburn and Suhareka to discuss how the college can be involved. Sister Cities International is program that focuses on the exchange of culture through "citizen diplomacy."

"Georgia Gwinnett is committed to providing our students with opportunities to engage in the global community," said Anthony Pinder, director of the Office of Internationalization in a press release. "For almost 60 years, the Sister Cities program has provided entire communities with such opportunities.

"We are pleased to partner with Mayor Johnny Crist and the City of Lilburn on their program with Suhareka, and particularly excited to participate in one of the first Sister City programs for a Gwinnett County community."

Noteworthy:

  • Last year, the Kosovo government sponsored 30 high school students for a cultural exchange here in Gwinnett County, and GGC was among colleges visited.
  • The college welcomes the first two-degree seeking students from Kosovo this coming fall.
  • Those students were among the first delegation of visiting high school students last year.
  • A similar program is being planned for the fall, when as many as 30 international students will visit GGC.
