Lilburn Middle Principal Moves Soon to New Post

Howard Taylor, principal at Lilburn Middle School, will replace ousted North Atlanta interim principal Mark Mygrant later this month.

Lilburn Middle School's principal will take over for an ousted Atlanta principal later this month, not in November.

Atlanta Public Schools hired Howard E. (Gene) Taylor at its Oct. 1 board meeting to take over at North Atlanta High School. At the time, Buckhead Patch reported that Taylor was expected to take over in November.

Then-principal Mark Mygrant also had not been dismissed. On Friday, Oct. 8, that changed when district officials let Mygrant go, along with several other administrators at the Atlanta high school.

Taylor has served as principal at Lilburn Middle School since 2008. Before that, he was principal at Crews Middle School from 2006 to 2008 and assistant principal for instruction at North Gwinnett High School from 2003 to 2006, according to information from Atlanta Public Schools.

Previously, Taylor also worked on the college level.

"I’m elated to have been given the opportunity to join this phenomenal team,” Taylor said in an article on the APS website. "I’m looking forward to applying what I’ve learned from working as a college professor, principal and teacher to my work with the students and parents of North Atlanta."

Gwinnett County Public Schools has not announced a replacement for Taylor.
