Lilburn Resident Receives Honors at New York's Carnegie Hall

Providence Christian Academy student Taylor Henry wins silver medal for his painting

Providence Christian Academy student Taylor Henry, 16, was among the teenagers honored at the 88th annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards ceremony at New York City’s Carnegie Hall this week.

The-16-year-old, who will be a senior in the fall and also has skills on the soccer field for Providence, was recognized for his painting, “A Certain City With a Certain Name,” which is among this year’s award-winning work and chosen from more than 185,000 submissions in 29 categories.

Henry received a Silver Medal. He was one of 50 other Georgia teens recognized at the ceremony Tuesday night.

Providence Christian Academy art teacher Janet Webb was also on hand at the ceremony, her second time doing so. She was also presented at the event in 2008 when providence senior Allison Clements won a silver medal.

She called Henry  “a disciplined student” and “very teachable” in a press release about the event.  “He is strong in his faith and a leader in the classroom.”

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is run by the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. An exhibit of the award-winning work runs through June 19 at the World Financial Center Courtyard Galler in lower Manhattan.
