Lilburn Seniors Receive Numerous Scholarships

Seniors from Parkview and Berkmar are rewarded for academic excellence.

The following scholarships were awarded to Parkview and Berkmar seniors according to a series of press releases from Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund scholarships

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) recently announced that 30 Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students are the 2012 recipients of the organization’s Georgia Opportunities Scholarship. The 28 current seniors and two 2011 graduates represent nine of the district’s traditional high schools and a charter school. As recipients of this national scholarship, the students receive a monetary package of $10,000.

From Berkmar High:

  • Lilian Abigail Ayala – Georgia Institute of Technology, Architecture
  • Yeisury Gomez – College plans undecided
  • Steffany Ibanez – University of Notre Dame, Political Science and Business
  • Juan Jose Moreno – Georgia Southern University, Political Science
  • Melissa Sue Ramos – Georgia State University 
  • Melissa Ramirez – Georgia State University, Biology 
  • Elvira Salgado – Northwestern University, Political Science 

From Parkview High:

  • Gabriel Nava – (Class of 2011 graduate)
  • Sergio Navarrete – Georgia State University, Aerospace Engineering

2012 National Merit Scholars earn $2,500 award. The National Merit Scholars are part of a group of distinguished students nationwide judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

From Parkview High:

  • Caleb N. Younger  - Probable career field: Government Service - National Merit $2500 Scholarship

Corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships, the National Merit recipients can use their award at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.  Scholarship awards range from $500 to $10,00 per year.

  • Ross P. Cunningham – Parkview High  - Probable career field: Physics - National Merit Southern Company Scholarship
  • Samuel L. Gowland – Parkview High  - Probable career field: Molecular Biology - National Merit Norfolk Southern Scholarship

Thirteen seniors in Gwinnett County reported having received military academy appointments earning over $5 million in scholarship monies. From Lilburn:
