Lilburn Students to Compete at GCPS Spelling Bee, Saturday Feb. 2

Nearly 90 students -- ten coming from Lilburn schools -- will compete in the Gwinnett County Public Schools' 2013 spelling bee on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Ten students from Lilburn schools will compete at the Gwinnett County district spelling be this Saturday, Feb. 2

The students are the spelling bee champions from their Lilburn elementary and middle schools. In total, there are 88 schools with representatives at the Gwinnett County Public Schools' bee.

The competition will be held at Central Gwinnett High, located at 564 W. Crogan Street in Lawrenceville. It is sponsored by the Gwinnett County Association of Educators.

Student participants will register from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. At 8:30 a.m., the local school spelling winners will first compete in a written spelling bee contest.

The top 12 spellers from the written bee then will compete in the public oral bee. Last year's bee produced a three-time winner Asad Ladhani, a student at North Gwinnett Middle School.

In addition, the top 12 spellers will represent their school and school system in the District 3 Bee which takes place 10 a.m. on Feb. 23, 2013, at North Gwinnett High.

The following list represents each of the Lilburn schools that will have its "stellar speller" at the GCPS bee Feb. 2.

Elementary Schools:

  • Arcado Elementary
  • Camp Creek Elementary
  • Hopkins Elementary
  • Knight Elementary
  • Lilburn Elementary
  • Minor Elementary
  • Mountain Park Elementary

Middle Schools

  • Berkmar Middle
  • Lilburn Middle
  • Trickum Middle
