The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently announced the final 2,000 recipients, adding to the over 2400 Merit Scholars announced in May. These finalists receive college sponsored awards of $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years in the undergraduate programs at institutions which finance the scholarship. Among those outstanding students receiving are Drew Vander Wood and Andrew Jarnigan.

A July 9, 2012 press release from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation states that 197 colleges and universities sponsor the 4600 Merit Scholarship awards. “This final group of winners brings the number of 2012 National Merit Scholars to approximately 8,100.” The scholarships represent a total of more than $35 million.
