Mountain Park Elementary School Counselor David Young was named 2011 State Counseling Writer of the Year by the Georgia School Counselors Association.
Young was among three from the county to be honored by the association. Dorothy Parker-Jarrett, principal at Summerour Middle School, was named State Counseling Advocate of the Year, and Dianne Thompson, director of advisement and counseling, was named State Counseling Supervisor of the year.
The association took "note of the support and guidance" the three provide to the county's public schools, GCPS spokesman Jorge Quintana said in an emailed announcement.
Three Gwinnett educators won the awards last year, Quintana said. Young and Parker-Jarrett earlier this year were named at the county level and for Region 2.
