Updated: Parkview Panthers One Step Closer to Baseball Title Defense

Parkview High School beats Hillgrove 8-5 Wednesday to reach Class AAAAA semifinals.

Parkview's state semifinal series with Mill Creek begins at 4 p.m. Monday with a double-header at Parkview. The third game, if needed, will be played Tuesday.

Parkview High School will have to defeat its neighbors if it wants to repeat as Class AAAAA state baseball champion.

That's because all four of the semifinalists are from Gwinnett County, including three from Parkview's Region 8-AAAAA.

Parkview hosts Mill Creek in a best-of-three series beginning Monday; Grayson plays at Brookood in the other semifinal.

The Panthers (27-6) advanced Wednesday night with an 8-5 win at Hillgrove in the final game of a best-of-three series.

The teams split a Tuesday double-header, with Hillgrove winning the opener 6-3 and Parkview winning the second game 4-1.

According to Twitter reports from the game from Parkview fans, the Panthers scored five runs in the first inning and two more in the second and held a 7-1 lead after two innings.

Edwin Arias, Josh Hart and Matt Olson each had two hits for Parkview, according to a report in the AJC. Olson had a two-run double in the first inning.
