Parkview Soccer Dominates Shiloh, Clinches Playoff Spot

Panther teams outscored Generals 18-0 in two games.

Shiloh soccer ran into quicksand at the Big Orange Jungle Thursday night, losing to Parkview's teams by a combined score of 18-0.

The Panther girls won 10-0 and the boys won 8-0.

Parkview's boys (8-6-0) clinched a playoff spot by beating the Generals (1-11-0) on a cold and windy Thursday night.

Santiago Gubitosi opened up the scoring for Parkview by finessing the ball past the oncoming keeper for a 1-0 lead.

Later, Gubitosi provided an assist for C.J. Ciarlante by popping the ball over the defense. Ciarlante brought the ball down and shot a powerful shot into the back of the net.

A calamitous mishap put Parkview up 3-0. Shiloh’s Ashton Maycock went for a header but ducked his head too low and the ball skidded off into the wrong direction and into the back of his own net.

Gubitosi provided an amazing curling assist to Zach Welch 30 seconds into the second half. Gubitosi, dribbling on the left side, flicked the ball to the right of one defender, ran around his left side to collect it and then put the ball through the legs of the second defender. Gubitosi then sprinted down the left-hand side and provided a curling pass for Welch. Shiloh’s keeper grabbed the ball, but Welch kicked it out of his hands, spun around and netted the fourth goal for Parkview.

Jonathon Jarrett showed off his tricks with 34 minutes left in the game when he chipped the keeper from outside the box to net his first goal of the game. Jarrett would follow up his effort two minutes later with a goal from the outside the box.

The Panthers led 6-0.

Pete Charter scored with 21 minutes left in the game. Charter faked to the right, faked to the left, and then ran to his right past the defender and took a shot. Panthers led 7-0.

With two minutes left in the game goalkeeper Jack Falle, playing forward for the second half, scored his first goal of the season. He received the ball 40 yards away from the goal, sprinted shoulder to shoulder with his defender, and in the box took a powerful shot into the left bottom corner.

Falle and Diego Casillas split halves to record the clean sheet. Neither goalie was threatened more than once each half as Parkview’s defense, led by Jose Diaz, would not allow the Shiloh defenders to get in for a shot.

Shiloh’s forward, Willy Perez, was so desperate to help his team that he was often in the back of the defense helping out. General’s defense including Leo Solis and Mike Tran did their best to hold back the fast and strong forward combination Parkview threw out with Falle up in front.

“It felt good to finally score,” said Charter, who has lately had a scoring drought. “I think we can go far in playoffs, and I’m looking forward to the Brookwood game,” continued Charter. “It looks like they have better results, but it should be a good game.”

The Panthers face rivals Brookwood (10-3-0) April 15 in their first conference game after spring break.

“That Brookwood game is a big game for us,” remarked an excited Sammy Korgi, a sophomore for the Panthers.

Parkview is off through spring break and will return to the Big Orange Jungle for non-conference action April 8 to face Lilburn’s Providence (9-3-0) Christian Academy. They will follow up the next day against undefeated Grissom (18-0-0) Saturday April 9.
