Parkview Student Earns Spot in International Science Fair

Eight other students can still qualify for the event.

-  Accomplishments: A Parkview High School student has earned a spot in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair to be held May 8-13 in Los Angeles.

Aprotim Bhowmik has qualified in the Microbiology category and will join four other Gwinnett County students in the competition. Bhowmik qualified based on high rankings during the regional challenge in February.

Eight other local students still have a chance to qualify for the Los Angeles event at this weekend’s Georgia Science and Engineering Fair in Athens.

Local qualifiers are:

Trickum Middle School: D. Ryan Bhwomik (Engineering), Evann Brantley (Plants), Emma Carlson (Environmental), Mallory Larson (Physics & Astronomy), Gowan Moise (Behavioral & Social Sciences), and Justin Shanks (Biochemistry).

Parkview High School: Samuel Gauspohi and Daniel Ting (Physics & Astronomy).

- Key to Their Awesomeness: You truly have to be the best of the best to qualify for both competitions. The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair is considered the largest pre-college science competition in the world, with 1,600 students coming from 60 countries. To qualify for the Georgia fair, student had to place first in regional competition. In all, 13 middle-school and 36 high-school student-researched projects from Gwinnett system schools will be presented at the state competition.
