It's been talked about at school since before graduation (and even DURING graduation) and on Wednesday, revealed its new mascot — The Storm.
When searching for an athletic icon to represent its team, administrators looked for something that exemplified the Christian principles of Providence, they explained in Vimeo videos linked from the school's Facebook page.
The video explains that they gained inspiration from Zacharia 9:14:
"Then the Lord will appear over them, And His arrow will go forth like lightning; And the Lord God will blow the trumpet, And will march in the storm winds of the South."
In the video, Connie Adams, the Elementary and Middle School Principal, explained that storms are under God's control. "We want to be under the Lord's command," she said.
Providence's high school principal Sean Chapman, says that based on their criteria, the "Storm is a fitting mascot."
Athletic director Michael Woods said in the video that the new name and logo "will make a bold confident statement wherever it's seen."
