Providence Pounds Charlton to Win First Baseball Title

Stars beat Charlton County 11-1 in Game 3 of the Class A championship series to win their first baseball title in school history.

Austin Golden provided the offensive punch and Erich Stahl pitched a complete game as beat Charlton County 11-1 (in six innings) to win the Class A baseball championship Friday in Folkston, Ga.

The game was ended after six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The Stars scored six runs in the top of the first and three more in the bottom of the second to take command early. Providence had three doubles and batted around in the first.

Golden, who knocked in five runs, hit a three-run home run in the second to account for those runs.

Stahl gave up five hits and only one run, which came off an infield single in the bottom of the fifth, when Charlton avoided the mercy for an inning. The Indians went three up, three down in the bottom of the six.

The championship is Providence's first in baseball.
