Parkview, Berkmar Students Earn Scholarships

Three local students were among the 31 Gwinnett County seniors to receive scholarships facilitated by the board of education:

 -Tiffany Chu, Parkview High School: Alton C. Crews Teaching Scholarship ($1,500), given to a senior pursuing a career in education.

-Diana Nguyen, Berkmar High School (teacher Kereida Beadle): Atlanta Toyota Scholarship, given to one student and one of their teachers from each GCPS high school. Student receives $1,500; teacher receives $750.

-Gerald Willingham, Parkview High School (teacher Doug Wagner): Atlanta Toyota Scholarship (described above).

Berkmar Grad Is Fellowship Winner

Yasmin Yonis, a 2007 Berkmar High graduate, was recently named a Merage American Dream Fellow. She is one of 10 national winners of the fellowship, which provides up to $20,000 over a two-year period to academically outstanding undergraduates who are immigrants to the United States. NFL’s Cook to Visit Head Elementary

Tennessee Titan and former student Jared Cook will visit the school for its Field Day on May 6. In support of Relay For Life, the student body will walk around the running track two times at the end of the day.

Archeological Project at Berkmar Middle

Berkmar Middle School Principal Kenney Wells and teacher Jim Eacona are working on an archaeological research project with the Gwinnett Archaeological Research Society. On May 14, Dr. James J. D’Angelo will help students discover what is believed to be the remains of a 19th century plantation mill site located on school property.
