Standout Students: Parkview Senior Wins AJC Cup

Katie Carroll receives award from Atlanta newspaper; Wexel Bros. claim bridge title; Berkmar senior's essay wins PTA contest.

Parkview senior Katie Carroll was the recipient of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution AJC Cup, awarded to seniors who excel in leadership and academic skills, and in extracurricular activities.

Among Carroll’s extracurricular activities was captain of Parkview’s girls basketball team, which played in the state tournament this past season.

Parkview’s athletics director Mark Whitley is a former AJC Cup winner (1980). The award has been awarded by the newspaper since 1927.

Top bridge players: Brothers Jacob Wexel, a sophomore at Parkview High School, and Peter Wexel, a Georgia Cyber Academy middle-school student , won the high-school division at the Georgia School Bridge Championship held at Georgia Tech.

The brothers are two of six Wexel children who play bridge.

Literary winner: Berkmar High School senior Jymirah Morris won the state PTA Reflections Contest in the area of literature, Her essay entitled “More Than a Conviction” was a division winner. She will represent Georgia at the upcoming national competition.
