State Inks Deal with South Korea, Killian Hill Christian School to Benefit

State Superintendent John Barge signed a memorandum of understanding on March 25. It allows a cultural exchange of education professionals between Georgia and South Korea.

Killian Hill Christian School is among eight schools in Georgia that will be hosting a delegation of Korean teachers for ten weeks this spring.

Three other schools in nearby Duluth -- Chattahoochee Elementary, Wilson Creek Elementary, Northview High -- also will be hosting Korean teachers. In general, Gwinnett County and Fulton County schools are participating.

The first of 26 teachers began their 10-week stay this week, on March 25.

That same day, state Superintendent John Barge signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea that allows the cultural exchange. In addition to Korean teachers visiting here, teachers from Georgia will visit South Korea.

In addition to collaborating with local schools, the teachers also will participate in special lectures at Oglethorpe University

"We look forward to the Korean teachers bringing to us the stories of their success and sharing the lessons they have learned from their work," said Barge, in a press release. and a U.S. state. 

Officials said Georgia teachers will complete the cultural exchange by visting Korean schools beginning in the fall.

Sang Kon Kim, the superintendent of education of the Gyeonggi-do province, visited to see if the school would be a good fit for his teachers.

Located in South Korea, Gyeonggi-do is the most populous province in all of Korea. During that visit, school officials said that an exchange could happen in the next school year.
