Taylor Named Principal of Berkmar High School, Will Leave North Atlanta High

Dr. Gene Taylor returns to Gwinnett County after serving as principal of North Atlanta High School for one year. He previously was principal of Lilburn Middle School.

A familiar face is returning to Gwinnett County to head Berkmar High School.

Dr. Gene Taylor was named the new principal of the Lilburn school during a special called meeting by Gwinnett County Public Schools on Friday.

Taylor is currently the principal of North Atlanta High School. A position he's held since November 2012.

Buckhead Patch reports Taylor announced his resignation in a video. His last day at the Atlanta school will be Dec. 1.

Taylor was named principal of North Atlanta after former principal Mark MyGrant and other top administrators at the school were removed in the fall of 2012.

"This school is in much greater need. This school has been identified as a failing school for years. This school could not compete with North in any matter," said Taylor referring to Berkmar in the video to North Atlanta students. "They've got great kids and they've got great teachers trying to do great things," he added.

Prior to taking the position with Atlanta Public Schools, Taylor served as principal of Lilburn Middle School from 2008 until 2012. He also worked as principal of Crews Middle School in Lawrenceville from 2006 until 2008.

Berkmar's interim principal Jane Stegall will continue in her position until Taylor can transition from his current position.
