“This year’s championship event was especially competitive, and I offer my congratulations and appreciation to each team member and their coaches for the many hours of study, practice and dedication that brought them to this final round of competition," said Tom Wommack, president of the PAGE Foundation, in a press release.

The competition, which resembles a team version of Jeopardy, challenges the kids on history, science, math, literature, art, geography, spelling, and current events. All questions in the competition are based on the curriculum taught in Georgia schools.

It was the second year in a row that Trickum Middle School's Academic Team qualified for the tournament's finals, in which teams compete in four rounds. The Trickum group was the only repeating team from last year to qualify for the finals of this prestigious tournament, LaPerre said.

A total of 133 teams started the competition this season, and only 22 qualified to continued on to the state semi-finals.
