Welch Named Interim Meadowcreek Principal

Tommy Welch steps in from assistant principal's position.

Gwinnett School announced that Tommy Welch will serve as the interim principal of Meadowcreek High School. The appointment was effective Friday. 

The county Board of Education called a special meeting to make the decision, which comes in the wake of Principal Bob Jackson's death on Monday. 

CEO/Superintendant J. Alvin Wilbanks made the recommendation, and the Board approved.

Welch began his Gwinnett teaching career as a social studies teacher at the school in 2003. He moved into the assistant principal role in 2006, where he has remained since. 

Welch holds both a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Buffalo. He has attended Piedmont College for his specialist's degree and is currently pursuing a doctorate in philosophy from Mercer University.

He also graduated from the school system's 2009 Quality-Plus Leader Academy.
