Archer Runs Over Berkmar

Archer Tigers defeat the Berkmar Patriots 42-0 to climb their way out of the bottom of the region standings.

The Archer Tigers scored 28 points in the first half in a 42-0 rout over the Friday night in Lilburn.

Berkmar was unable to stop the run in the first half as Archer put the game away before the half. Tigers running back Sean Fowler ran for 108 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way.

The two teams came in fighting to get a win and climb out of the bottom of the Region 8-AAAAA standings. The Tigers improved to 2-3, 1-2 in Region 8-AAAAA. Berkmar fell to 1-4, and 0-3.

Archer’s running back Ernest Alexander scored the first touchdown of the game with a 3-yard run. Quarterback Jarvis Holley followed that up with a 15-yard touchdown run to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Fowler scored on touchdown runs of 15 and 18 yards in the second quarter.

Berkmar looked like it had hope when Jaden Le intercepted Holley’s pass with four minutes left in the half. But Berkmar coughed up the opportunity when quarterback Deion Perry’s throw to Dorren Miller was intercepted by Archer’s cornerback Deondre Singleton.

The Patriots continue to not capitalize on their opportunities as they slide to the bottom of the region standings. The offensive line again allowed for the defense to penetrate too easily. Perry was sacked twice in the first half. He was sacked early by Romauld Kugbila and again by Derrick Parker to end the half.  Perry was sacked a third time in the second half by Jimkenny Bazile and Antonio Riles of Archer.

The Tigers opted to pass without much success as the third ended 28-0. Le and Mikel Sessions were holding back the Tiger defense by making critical tackles at the right time.

But it was only a matter of time as Fowler ran in his third touchdown of the night on a 7-yard run.  Tigers led 34-0 with five minutes left in the game.

KJ Parmer finished the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run with 37 seconds left in the game. And to add insult to injury, Jaypee Philbert of Archer recovered a Berkmar fumble to end the game.

“I’d like to think this win will give us momentum,” Archer’s Head Coach Andy Dyer said. “But we have a tough stretch to go through.”

“Our goal is to be one of the four left standing at the end of the season [and make the playoffs],” said Dyer. ”We have a lot of work to achieve that goal.”

“It wasn’t a lack of effort,” said Berkmar’s Head Coach Jonathan Sanks of his team’s performance. “Our team is just not physically able to compete with these guys.”

“It’s hard to compete in this league with a lot of first-year players who are smaller and less experienced,” Sanks added.

“But we have to stay positive, look back at the film and look at what we did right,” finished Sanks.

Berkmar will travel to play in the green flag Lilburn rivalry against Parkview next Friday.

The Archer Tigers has two weeks to enjoy the win with next Friday off as they prepare to face Shiloh.
