Central Gwinnett Overwhelms Berkmar

Black Knights scored 43 points in the first half in a 49-6 win over the Patriots.

Emmanuel Westmoreland passed for four touchdowns for Central Gwinnett Friday night as the Black Knights beat Berkmar 49-6 in Lilburn.

Westmoreland threw three of the scoring passes in the first half as the Black Knights  (3-0) scored 43 points before halftime. His final TD pass went 53 yards in the second half.

Berkmar (1-2) started on the right foot with an interception by Karl Llewellyn to set up the first touchdown drive. Patriots quarterback Deion Perry finished the drive by throwing a 66-yard touchdown pass to Dorren Miller. The Patriots missed their extra-point attempt and failed to score again.

Central scored again a minute into the second half with Westmoreland hitting Malachi Jones, who ran past two Patriot defenders down the sideline for the 53-yarder.

Berkmar’s offense saw some bright spots with running back Devin Johnson and wide receiver Miller making plays for big yards. But the Patriots were unable to string together enough plays to finish a drive after their initial touchdown.

Berkmar won the matchup 47-23 last year which sent Central into a five-game losing streak. But this Region 8-AAAAA opener may have built some momentum for the Black Knights to ride for the rest of the season.

The Knight’s defense has been reinforced by England transfer Francis Kallon. Kallon, a Georgia Tech commit has only played three organized high school football games. Kallon stands at a muscular and lean 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds. This transfer from London led his defensive line Friday night with several sacks, pushing aside two or three offensive lineman at a time as he continues to learn the game of American football.

“It was great, but we could have done better,” said Kallon. “I keep progressing, getting better and stronger. I put in (effort) and my coaches help me.”

Berkmar’s Head Coach Jonathan Sanks said, “Hopefully we learned how to play some football.”

“That team was better than us every which way,” Sanks continued. “If the offensive line learns how to block we’ll have some success.”

Berkmar will hope to rebound from this loss as it travels to Grayson next Friday. Central will play in the Georgia Dome against South Gwinnett Saturday.
