Green Flag at Stake in Berkmar-Parkview High School Football Game

Neighboring football teams play for the annual Lilburn football championship.

Parkview and Berkmar high schools have been playing for the Lilburn City Championship since 1978.

But the Green Flag, awarded to the winner of the annual football rivalry, has changed hands only eight times.

Parkview, a four-time state champ, has won the game 13 years in a row and holds a 29-6 record against the Patriots.

Berkmar has reached the football playoffs only three times, and hasn't beaten the Panthers since a 13-10 win in 1999.

The series has been lopsided, but this year's game — 7:30 p.m. Friday at Berkmar — could be different. Both teams are in the bottom half of the Region 8-AAAAAA standings.

Berkmar is 3-5 overall, but has lost its last five after starting the season 3-0. The Patriots' last win was a 29-14 win in September over Shiloh, which beat Parkview 23-21 two weeks ago.

Parkview has had one of its leanest years in history and is 2-6 overall. But the Panthers have won two of their last three games after starting the season 0-5.
