Parkview Plays Well Before Fading in 36-0 Loss to Grayson

Rams led only 7-0 at half, but won going away in the second half.

Grayson made it six in a row with a big 36-0 win over Parkview to claim first place in Region 8-AAAAA.

The home stands were filled with Parkview fans from one end to the other. The Grayson fans, who always travel in massive numbers to the Grayson away games, packed the opposing side bleachers to the very top.

This inter-region match up only ended up living to one half of what everyone thought it would be.

The Parkview offense continued with its traditional smash-mouth style of running and implemented quite a few pass plays to spark the offense. However, the Grayson defense, which has only allowed an average of 26 yards per game, did not maintain its average, but did manage to keep Parkview quarter Jack Esmonde and the Panthers off balance all night.

The turning point of the game occurred late in the second quarter when Parkview decided to punt to Grayson speedy punt returner Callen Hightower, who returned the ball to the Parkview 30-yard line.

A few plays later defensive lineman Robert Nikemdiche, who occasionally moonlights as a fullback, took the ball in for a score to make it 7-0. The score was 7-0 going to the half.

Parkview received the ball to open the second half and was three and out on its first possession.

Grayson got the ball right back and a few plays later. Devin Gillespie scampered 28 yards up the middle to make the score 14-0.

Parkview seemed to lose focus and Grayson began to pile up the points beating the Parkview Panthers 36-0.

It will not get any easier for the Panthers when they face the Brookwood Broncos who are the reigning state champions next Friday at Brookwood.
