Parkview Soccer Swept at GAC Friday

Panthers play at home Tuesday vs. Mill Creek.

Parkview’s boys and girls teams lost at Greater Christian School Friday night.

The boys fell 2-1, the girls lost 3-0.

In the boys game, Parkview’s defenders and goalkeeper Jack Falle were unable to contain Denzel Clarke as the Spartans (3-2) snapped the Panthers (3-1) undefeated streak.

Panthers came out flat against a very good Spartan team. Clarke immediately scored within two minutes but the goal was disallowed after being caught offside.

The match was a defensive battle for the next 20 minutes. Sammy Korgi of Parkview almost had a goal when he headed a corner, only for it to be deflected just outside the goal.

Falle kept the score 0-0 with a spectacular save 10 minutes into the half.

Clarke finally broke the stalemate with a spectacular volley shot outside the box. The ball sailed past the fingertips of Falle and into the upper right post. The visiting crowd was stunned as GAC took the lead 1-0.

After halftime, Parkview came out looking for a goal to tie. Forwards Abel Nguyen and Jonathon Jarrett were unable to break through the Spartan’s defense.

Clarke exploited the Panther’s high attack by sneaking behind the defenders. All he needed was a beautiful through pass by his teammate Stewart Abrahart to break through the thin defense.

Clarke calmly chipped the ball over Falle to score his second goal of the night and carry the Spartans to a 2-0 lead.

“It was amazing to score two goals,” said a humble Clarke. “I wouldn’t have been able to do any of that without the passes from my team and the through pass from Stewart.”

Panthers never let up their attack. Santiago Gubatosi’s free kick was stopped right under the top bar by the Spartan keeper. The keeper was unable to hold the ball and junior midfielder Jose Diaz kicked the ball into the back of the net.

Abel Nguyen scored a disallowed goal with 5 minutes left in the game after being called for handling the ball.

The Panthers lost their momentum after the controversial call.

Parkview’s girls (2-2) fall to GAC (4-0-1) by a 3-0 score Friday.

Parkview’s girls have lost again, a trend Coach Hamby is not accustomed to. The Spartan girls were just a step faster Friday. The Panther girls were attempting to revenge last season’s 5-4 loss to GAC.

Chelsea Gandy was the player of the game as she netted two goals for the Spartans. Mollie Arrendale of GAC scored the other to hand the Panther girls a second loss in three games.

“It was a great victory for us,” said Gandy. “This makes it two years in a row. Last season it was unexpected, we knew they were a great team, but this year we knew we were a strong team and that we could win.”

Parkview will play at home Tuesday against Mill Creek, beginning wiyth the girls game at 5:30 p.m.
