Providence Christian Academy Baseball Team to be in Two-Day Event at Coolray

Ten high school teams, including Lilburn's Providence Christian Academy, will compete on March 8-9, 2013.

Providence Christian Academy's baseball team will be mong 10 high school teams invited to compete in a two-day, five-game event at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.

The teams, from Gwinnett and Forysth counties, are considered among the top programs in the area, according to the Gwinnet Braves release. Providence Christian Academy won it's first state title in 2012, ending the season 27-12.

Besides Providence Christian Academy, South Gwinnett, Mountain View, Lanier, North Gwinnett, Duluth, Collins Hill, Brookwood, North Forsyth and Peachtree Ridge high schools will take to the diamond in the event's debut.

The teams will compete over March 8 and 9, and it is the first such showcase.

"We’ve had singular events before, showcasing some top high school baseball teams in the area," Gwinnett Braves General Manager North Johnson said in a press release.

"Through the efforts of the community and our staff, we have expanded to welcome the largest high school showcase in the history of Coolray Field," he added.  "We want Coolray Field to be an outlet for the entire county and surrounding areas so they can take part in this one-of-a-kind experience."

The schedule of games is:

March 8, 4 p.m.: South Gwinnett vs. Mountain View;

March 8, 6:30 p.m.: Lanier vs. North Gwinnett;

March 9, 2 p.m.: Providence Christian vs. Duluth;

March 9, 4:30 p.m.: Collins Hill vs. Brookwood;

March 9, 7 p.m.: North Forsyth vs. Peachtree Ridge.

Tickets are on sale now. Two-day passes can be purchased for $15. Adult tickets are $10, and student tickets with identification are $5.
