Providence Christian Advances in Baseball Playoffs

Stars take out Glascock County in first-round series.

Providence Christian advanced in the Class A baseball playoffs with a sweep of Glascock County Friday in Lilburn.

The Stars beat Glascock 18-8 and 8-7 to win the best-of-three series two games to none.

Providence plays the winner of the first-round series between George Walton and First Presbyterian next week in the second round.

In game one, Steven Slaughter went 3 for 5 with a single, two home runs and four RBIs for the Stars.

The second of his two home runs, a three-run shot, ended the game, run-ruling Glascock County 18-8.

Tyler Brown went 3 for 5 with three RBIs, and starting pitcher Glen Williamson pitched 3 2/3 innings before a Glascock County batter hit a line drive off his knee, forcing him to leave the game.

Williamson allowed eight runs, one unearned, on eight hits. He struck out two and walked two.

In game two, Slaughter had another big performance, going 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning to held Providence earn the sweep.

Providence starting pitcher Alan Skinner pitched four innings and gave up five runs, but only three were earned. He gave up only four hits, struck out seven and walked six.
