Providence Christian Hires First Football Coach

Former GAC coach Ken Robinson will start the new program at the Lilburn private school.

Ken Robinson, who led Greater Atlanta Christian to the state finals in 2002, has been hired to be the first head football coach at Providence Christian Academy.

Providence’s Athletics Director Michael Woods announced the decision via email Monday morning. Robinson will a direct a program that will field a middle-school team this fall, a junior-varsity team in 2012 and a varsity team by 2013.

“We are most fortunate to find a man of great character and integrity who we believe is mission-appropriate for our school and is also a well-respected classroom teacher and a proven football coach at a private and public school in Gwinnett County,” Woods said in the press release. “Ken is very mission-minded in his coaching philosophy and understands the greater calling and responsibility that coaching and teaching allows him in the lives of students today.”

Robinson has previously taught social students and coached football at GAC and Mountain View High School. Four of his teams at GAC reached at least the state quarterfinals.

As a player, Robinson played at the University of South Carolina and for two years in the NFL with the Washington Redskins. Ken and his wife Lori live in Gwinnett County and have three children; Christian (21), who plays football for the University of Georgia, Sarah (18), and Caroline (10).
