Stars Takes Out Sandy Creek at Deep South Classic

Providence Christian regroups after Wednesday loss in semifinals.

Providence Christian showed what happens when it's "locked in" Thursday night in the Deep South Classic at Brookwood High School.

The Stars (10-2) played perhaps its best all-around game of the three-day tournament, beating Sandy Creek 68-54 in convincing fashion to win the third-place game.

Four players scored in double figures and the Stars were really never threatened, even though the Patriots stayed within single digits until the fourth quarter.

Alan Skinner led the way with 17 points, followed by Nate Bucher with 15 and Nikko Cormier and Peter Hage with 14 each.

It was a striking change from Wednesday night's 52-44 semifinal loss to McIntosh, after which coach Ivan Iverson called his team "lackadaisical."

Thursday, the Stars were much crisper, attacking the rim on offense and playing aggressive defense. A 9-2 run to start the fourth period built a 59-45 lead that essentially put the game away.

"They wanted to make amends for yesterday," Iverson said. "Overall, we were much better and we need that going into our region schedule [after the new year].

"When we're locked in, we're tough to beat. ... But we've got to be locked in every game."

Dominique Lindsey scored 15 points to lead Sandy Creek.
