Viewfinder: Parkview Versus Stephenson

The game lived up to the pre-match hype with Parkview's stingy defense giving up very few big plays. The panthers lost, though, 14-3.

The anticipation and emotions ran high Friday night for Parkview and Stephenson as they prepared for their big crosstown rivalry. The Panthers left the Orange Jungle on Friday afternoon fired up and ready to battle against the Stephenson Jaguars at Hallford Stadium in DeKalb County.

It was not only time to battle, but time to reconnect with former teammates. Stephenson Senior Linebacker Raphael Kirby, Senior Safety Kyle Fleetwood and Junior Defensive Back Ali Groves departed Parkview to join the Stephenson Jaguars. Kirby has since committed to Miami and Fleetwood to the University of South Carolina.

The game lived up to the hype with Parkview's stingy defense giving up very few big plays. The game remained scoreless well into the third quarter when Parkview took the lead with a field goal. The Stephenson offense tried early to get running back Mike Davis going. The Parkview defense contained Davis, who has committed to Florida, for most of the night.

The Stephenson offense seemed to struggle until the elusive Davis broke free for a 50-yard touchdown run. Parkview could not answer offensively and was later stymied by Wide Receiver/Punt Returner Demarcus Sweat who took a punt 60 yards for a touchdown. Parkview never recovered and lost to Stephenson 14 to 3.

Parkview will have to face another tough opponent next week against Norcross at home, who will be touting their star Wide Receiver, Jason Croom, who has already committed to Tennessee. The Stephenson Jaguars will be at Cedar Grove.
