Viewfinder: Parkview Wins Against Berkmar

The Parkview offense exploded in front of a packed homecoming crowd.

Parkview beat Berkmar to retain the "green flag" for the 12th straight season. The green flag is a local symbol of bragging rights between Parkview and Berkmar high school. Every year, these two Lilburn schools battle for the rights to hang it high on the pole at their perspective football stadiums to claim the city championship of Lilburn.

The Parkview offense exploded in front of a packed homecoming crowd with key plays from Jordan Reid, Chris Carson, Micah Reed, Alex Reid and Jay Turner. The offense wasted no time getting on the board. With 7:43 left in the first quarter, #23 Chris Carson scored on a two yard run. Carson also scored the second touchdown to make the score 14-0.

The Parkview defense continues to be stellar, led by junior Kyle Williams, Michael Sun, Rob Youngblood, sophomore John Patterson and Brian Miller, who had his first start at linebacker. Parkview defensive back #1 Keanu Mole picked off a stray pass thrown by Berkmar quarterback #2 Deon Perry and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown to bring the score to 21 to 0.

Berkmar managed to get on the scoreboard with a 30 yard field goal which bought the Patriots within 18. The Parkview offense responded immediately on the ensuing possession on the first play from scrimmage when Chris Carson took a pitch from Jack Esmonde and dashed 73 yards for his third touchdown of the game to put the game out reach at 28 to 3. Parkview went to the offensive depth chart by utilizing running backs Jay Turner and Alex Reid to control the ground game and eat up the clock. The Panthers went on to win decisively 41 to 3.

Parkview will try to extend their winning streak to 4 and 0 when they travel to Central Gwinnett next Friday to take on the Black Knights, while the Berkmar Patriots will serve as homecoming guests for the second straight week against the Shiloh Generals.
