Looking to get in shape in 2012? Here is a great fit tip to start off the new year. And the good news is . . . anyone can do it, right in the comfort of their own home!

Happy New Year!

This will be the first in a series of periodic fit tips to help you with your New Year’s resolutions to get in shape. My goal is to arm you with easy to do exercises that completely wipe out all excuses. That’s  right – NO EXCUSES!

No matter how busy you are, we all have time that we spend just chillin’ at home. Whether you call it down time, time to unwind after work, veg time in front of the TV in the evening, or family time on the weekend, we all have time where we really aren’t doing anything.

Instead of continuing your couch potato training, how about turning it into actual weight training time? Here’s how it works . . .

Let’s say you are at home watching your favorite show on TV on your comfy couch. Once a commercial comes on, get on the floor and knock out as many push ups as you can until the commercial ends. You can do them on your knees or the typical male full body version. Just make sure you have proper body position with your hands under your shoulders and hips pushed in towards the floor. No butts in the air!

Push Ups

When a different commercial comes on, turn over and do some crunches next. Put your feet flat on the floor with knees up and lightly place your hands behind your head with elbows out wide. Lift your chin towards the ceiling as you pull your navel towards the floor. Slowly exhale as you lift up and inhale as you lower back down.

Ab Crunch

Keep switching back and forth between push ups and crunches as the commercials change. When your TV show comes back on return to the couch.  Repeat the cycle as the commercials return. If you do this during at least one show everyday you will see an immediate improvement in the shape and muscularity of your arms.
