January is Walk Your Pet Month!

Starting the year off right is as simple as grabbing a leash and your pet!

The health care industry and the media have done a good job of emphasizing the importance of exercising and its positive benefits on your health.  But what about your pet?  Doesn’t he need exercise too?  Of course he does! The beginning of the year is a great time to start an exercise routine with your pet because January is Walk Your Pet Month.  Exercising your pet can help him maintain a healthy weight, release excess energy, and provide important mental stimulation.

Most people think of dogs when walking a pet, but many other types of pets can be put on a leash and taken for a stroll.  This can include cats and small mammals such as rabbits and ferrets.  Even some reptiles can be taken outside on leash.  Just be safe, use leashes approved for use with your particular pet, and use common sense.  For example, please don’t walk your cat next to the dog park!

Be sure to visit my Facebook page and let me know what type of pet you will make a commitment to start walking this month, www.facebook.com/zutillaveterinaryhousecalls.
