According to the City of Lilburn's website, some 8,000 people enjoyed fun and fireworks at this year's Sparkle in the Park on Sunday, Sept. 1.

The event is normally held on the Fourth of July, however it was delayed until Labor Day weekend due to heavy rain on Independence Day.

Pencil Thin Moustache and A1A, Jimmy Buffett tribute band, entertained the crowds before the fireworks show.

The city shared photos from the day on their Facebook page.

I'd like to know who did the counting. I was there during the day and hardly anyone was there. That night at the fireworks there were several hundred people but no where near 8,000.

Heck, it only started at 4 and had to deal with a heavy rainstorm that cut into the entertainment. We got there around 8ish and the band was great. The lawn was pretty well filled from what we could see . The firworks display was darn impressive for a town of Lilburns' size. Maybe not 8,000--but a lot more than "several" hundred people. I'll be back!
