Bones, Bones, Bones
We are approaching the Halloween holiday and it's time for the skeletons and monsters to come out. A quick bit of science fun is to dissect a rotisserie chicken. Our young children will have fun figuring out which way is up for the bird where are the wings and where are the legs. Where these bones on us? There is lots going on under the skin. Don't forget to save wishbone!
You could have a bone counting contest. How bones are in the wings? Breast? Back? Thigh? Which piece has the most bones?
Have you ever broken a chicken bone and taken a look with the magnifying glass? Bird bones are hollow. They look very different from a rib bone (like from spare ribs pork or beef). Try comparing the two kinds of bones. They look and weigh differently since the chicken bones are hollow and the others are solid.
You could even mix parts at your next party to create your own Frankenfood monster or Zombie chicken.
