To Tweet or not to Tweet ... ditto for FB and all the rest.

basics... to help you be successful

“Easy business basics”

In an effort to provoke some “common sense” thinking about using Social Media for business purposes, consider the following.

This is my nickel's worth (and worth exactly that) for business folks. It is not about our personal social networking stuff which, by the way, should be kept light years distance from each other.

To Tweet or not to Tweet ... ditto for FB posts and all the rest.

The jury is still out or maybe deadlocked as to how many Twitter users follow how many Tweeters. However, let's just do some high level super sophisticated mathematics. You know, 2x2 = 4 (I think).

So, I open up my Twitter screen (for this example, because I'm trying to make a point) on my smarter than me phone (I know it's supposed to be I but I don't have an iPhone (read, joke), and let's say I have six people I follow. These could be news, industry specific, bloggers, chamber/business groups, you, etc. Imagine each of those six are convinced “they” (you) have the ultimate answer, information that will bring about world peace, solve all problems forever. And, they each Tweet six of these enlightening gems first thing Monday a.m.

And now the super math ... 6x6 = 36 (I think)... are you getting it?

Question: Do you really think someone (besides your mom) is going to read 36 Tweets (six of which are yours) on their phone or for that matter their desktop? Uh, nope! YOU, likely just lost a follower.

Lightning bolt ... common sense ... how about you offer ONE (1), as in singular... good, enticing, interesting tweet, post, etc, in the a.m.? And, if you really can’t contain yourself (or your mom is napping) offer another in the late afternoon/early evening? Now, those who choose to follow you can take advantage of quality not quantity.

Enough for now. Next time we will talk about your choices of Tweeting/FB posting and all the rest, content. You know, your favorite SocialCam video etc. and your choices to include your weekend adventures ... which will be oh so interesting to your customers. Really?
