Lilburn Woman's Club Hosting Adult Seminar on Teen Issues

Gwinnett District Attorney Danny Porter is expected to speak at the free event.

The Lilburn Woman’s Club and Mountain Park United Methodist Church are hosting a free seminar for adults concerning teens and preteens next month. 

The seminar, entitled “What’s Around the Corner?”, aims to address and heighten the awareness of the struggles facing youth. It will take place Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, located at 1405 Rockbridge Rd. in Stone Mountain.

This event is for parents, grandparents, clergy, police, athletic leaders, teachers, guidance counselors and any adult who interacts with 11- to 17-year-olds.

Guests for the evening include: 

  • Danny Porter, Gwinnett District Attorney, who will address the legal consequences of youth’s unlawful behavior on parents and their underage children
  • Tiffany Sawyer, Director of Prevention Services Georgia Center for Child Advocacy-Preventing, who will cover youth sexual abuse
  • Katherine Raczynski, PhD University of Georgia, Director, Safe and Welcoming Schools Project, College of Education, will be discussing effective responses to bullying
  • Samantha Marcedo, Teen Advocate, Partnership Against Domestic Violence will tak about dating violence
  • Celia Brown, MA CCHP, Corizon Health-Gwinnett County Detention Center will identify suicidal tendencies
