Neighbors helping Neighbors

Final repairs to an elderly and disabled Lilburn resident's home in the Springwood Neighborhood were completed recently by a group that included neighbors, Home Depot and Killian Hill Baptist Church.

It started in March when Home Depot, Killian Hill Baptist Church and neighbors from the Springwood Neighborhood banded together to help an elderly, disabled woman make repairs to her home after she was reported to the City of Lilburn Code Enforcement by members from a group known as the “Concerned Home Owners of Lilburn.” Final repairs to Jan Hitchcock’s home in the Springwood Neighborhood were completed recently.

Using grant money provided by Home Depot’s “Team Depot” program, the team secured materials and equipment to complete the repairs. Steve Sailors from Sailors Contracting organized the construction and work details. Daniel and Jennifer Lucas from Grayson Landscape Management, Inc. donated their services and equipment to put the finishing touches on the property. Shrubbery donated by John Deere Landscapes and Grayson Landscape were planted around the home and topped off with pine straw.

A huge team of volunteers from Killian Hill Baptist Church consisting of Bill & Teresa Bruce, Barry & Cindy Schmidt, Don & Linda Wilson, Paul & Phyllis Williams, Tommy & Paula Bruce, Dr. Miles Sharpe, Steve McMahon, Charlie Freeman, Karen, Kayla, Rebecca and Amanda Harrison, Donnie & Tim Barr, Bud Bramblett, Cathy Lippert, Mark Elrod, Steve Sailors, Daniel & Jenifer Lucas and neighbor Teresa Czyz all pitched in to do what was needed to finish the job.

Mrs. Hitchcock’s code complaint was closed out by the City of Lilburn this past week. Thanks to all who showed their caring and compassion by helping Mrs. Hitchcock in her time of need and for also being a positive force in the community. Job well done!
