Are You A Frustrated Atlanta Sports Fan After Monday's Losses?

Will we ever again feel the joy of a world championship?

Tuesday probably hasn't been a day to remember for Atlanta sports fan, because Monday night was such a night to forget.

The Atlanta Falcons lost to the New York Jets 30-28 in the Georgia Dome on a last-second field goal on Monday Night Football.

The Atlanta Braves lost 4-3 to the Los Angeles Dodgers and were eliminated from the National League playoffs.

Both teams squandered late leads.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution sports columnist Mark Bradley called it the worst night in Atlanta sports history.

Our expectations were so high for both teams, so the losses were tough to take. And to see those hopes dashed on national TV was that much more disappointing.

The Falcons, now 1-4, were supposed to be a Super Bowl contender. They addressed weakness by convincing star tight end Tony Gonzalez to return for one more year and signing free agent running back Stephen Jackson to fill a need in the running game.

But the Jets looked like the better team Monday.

NFL.com writer Chris Wesseling called the loss "soul crushing."

According to ESPN, only six of the 118 NFL teams that started 1-4 between 1990 and 2012 made the playoffs. The Falcons are four games behind division leader New Orleans, and in danger of missing the playoffs.

The Braves looked like a World Series contender, finishing just a game behind the best record in the Major Leagues with a 96-66 record. They won the NL East by 10 games.

Then came Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, the winning pitcher in games 1 and 4, and the Braves were ousted 3 games to 1.

The Dodgers were obviously the better team.

Some question why Braves reliever Craig Kimbrell wasn't used in such a big game as Monday's. AJC blogger Jeff Shultz placed the blame on the Braves' playoff exit on the shoulders of the front office.

How do you feel today as an Atlanta sports fan? Do changes need to be made on both franchises? And will we ever again feel the joy of a world championship? Share your thoughts below.
